ARTIST: We All Have Hooks For Hands

I’m pretty sure this is what a “hootenanny” sounds like. If you were to attend a “hootenanny” and then later hear We All Have Hooks For Hands, you would probably say “Hey! They sound like a hootenanny!” Or a hoopla maybe.

The band is from Sioux Falls, has seven members (give-or-take), and makes a kind of jangly howl-along folk-pop that’s pretty dang infectious. They’re a little rough around the edges, and they play pretty recklessly for such a large group, making it sound like everything could come apart at the seams at any moment. But it doesn’t, and it works.

Imagine if Neutral Milk Hotel had been more of a party band, and you’ll have a good idea what We All Have Hooks For Hands sounds like. I don’t know for sure, but I’d be willing to bet these guys are pretty fun live.

Their record, The Shape Of Energy, hit stores yesterday. Check it out.
