ARTIST: Lissie

After a pretty beastly exam on Friday I was excited to find this little gem in my mailbox when I got home. Her name is Lissie, and she’s got an EP out next week on Fat Possum called Why You Runnin’.

Things you should know: she’s from rural Illinois and her voice is fantastic. But she doesn’t just rest on that. Songs like “Little Lovin” showcase both her evocative voice and her gift as a song-writer. The EP’s only 5 tracks, but all of them show a little bit of a different side of Lissie’s midwestern heritage, from hand-clapping bar-room romps to more subdued country shuffles. One more thing you should know: she’s kind of great.
