There’s so much great music I’ve been listening to since we stopped posting regularly back in July – and I’ve got a long list of songs, albums, artists and concerts to throw on here at some point. This is one off the list.
DM Stith is one of Asthmatic Kitty’s brood – and he makes the kind of beautiful orchestrally driven music you’d expect from their camp. He’s worked closely with Shara Worden (which, as The Decemberists know, is a pretty awesome thing to do), and was apparently inspired by his work with her to go ahead and write his own material. In my mind, Stith’s music references several other contemporary artists (Radiohead, Sufjan, Grizzly Bear), while also bringing some of his own personality to the table. The songs on his Asthmatic Kitty debut, Heavy Ghost, are dense and sometimes hard to crack – but there are more than a few positively exultant moments scattered throughout its 43 minutes that just about anyone could jam to. This song is one of them.
AND: If you’re in Indy, you should definitely try to catch DM Stith this Sunday at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, where he’ll be performing along with Osso as they perform Sufjan’s The BQE. Get your tickets HERE.
