For me it has only been in the last year that mash-ups transcended being a guilty pleasure to becoming purely a pleasure. Mash ups are kind of amazing. A person can take two songs that I would normally despise, smash them together, but the ensuing combination is not the train wreck I feel it should be, they’re usually pretty darn good. (Kind of a ‘the sum of the whole is greater than the parts’ sort of deal.) I cite two influences that helped me make this transition. First, Girl Talk, the reigning king of the mash-up. Night Ripper and Feed the Animals are mind-blowing, especially for someone as musically inept as I am.
Second and perhaps the most important, Chris describing to me over the Christmas break that mash-ups are a near perfect example of Post-Modernism and I love any excuse to say I’m listening to an expressive piece of Po Mo. (Those of us in the know call Post-Modernism, Po Mo.) (I may have just made that up.)
The annual Best of Bootie mix is a collection of some of the best in mash-ups and is something I look forward to every year.

Wow, that song was pretty dang entertaining. I can’t decide if Journey should bring Lady Gaga out on stage to perform the mash-up of if it should be the other way around. Pretty crazy either way.

you just can’t get enough of that pomo.
mixed feelings about mashups. i was really excited when “h to the izzo” came on shuffle the other day only to be ruined halfway through by a linkin park song. -
Seriously Logan, how many times have you used “post-modernism” in the last week. I think there may be a weekly group meeting for people like you.
